Irlam school receive funding boost

Children of Irlam Primary School will be able to learn construction skills through play thanks to a generous donation from a specialist waste management company.

Irlam Primary School, on Liverpool Road, received £600 from CSG through the business’ Community Chest scheme, which seeks to support good causes around its 30 UK bases.

The school will be using the money to make much-needed improvements to its outdoor construction area, where pupils can use different materials to build.

The gift will see a range of items purchased including giant-coloured pieces to construct towers and forts, creative crates, rope ladders and sweeping brushes.

Helen Gee, Nursery Teacher at Irlam Primary School, said: “We’re extremely grateful to CSG for their generosity.

“It has made a significant difference to our construction area and the children will be very excited when they return from their holidays.”

She continued: “We have also been able to buy new equipment for our water and maths areas, including giant magnifying lenses, plastic teapots and paint rollers.

“These areas are designed to spur imaginations while fostering teamwork and improving motor skills, but we were desperate for resources to make them more engaging.

“It’s wonderful to see a local company getting involved with the community in this way,” Helen added.

The school was nominated by CSG sales-coordinator Bernadette Farnworth and her husband Derek, a site operative at the company.

The pair have grandsons at the school, and other members of CSG Cadishead also have relatives there.

Daryl Tunningley, Marketing Manager at CSG, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to give back to the local communities around our network of nationwide facilities.

“We were impressed with Irlam Primary School’s commitment to making learning fun and hope these new materials are well received.”

The CSG Cadishead facility is a significant employer and processes more than 100,000 tonnes of waste each year.
