Salford City have announced the return of Sunderland goalkeeper Matty Young, who will be returning to the club on a second season-long loan.
The 18-year-old returns for a second time after making a significant impact at the Ammies last season, becoming Salford’s first-choice keeper part way through the campaign.
He was able to make a huge impact in the team, with an impressive number of clean sheets, being involved in the outstanding run of six consecutive clean sheets in the league over December.
Developing as a player in Sunderland’s Academy since the age of seven, Young signed professional terms with his parent club back in November 2023.
And since then, he has gone from strength-to-strength, with his initial loan spell at the Ammies last season allowed him to secure regular appearances for England at youth level.
Growing as a player, he has been able to develop as a player quickly gaining a reputation as being a real prospect for the future for both club and country.
Now a year older and heading into a second season at Salford, Young is looking to enhance his standing even further.

He said: “I think knowing what I am capable of and my ability on the pitch, I think there is more expectation now with what I can go and deliver on a match day.
“I have set very high expectations on myself to go and push on, and to be the best keeper in the league this year.”
And walking into the club as a familiar face, he has set his targets very high, Matty continued: “I think the lads will be pushing for automatics this year, if not, the play-offs, so that is something that me and the team will be looking forward to, and that is the end goal at the end of the day.”
He added: “It has all come round very quickly, it feels like we only played Carlisle the other day, and me and the team are very excited about that first game against Crewe. Ideally, we want to come here and win, and I feel that will be the first stepping stone on this journey that we are hopefully going to have.”
His signing for the club, follows experienced goalkeeper Mark Howard becoming the latest addition the squad.
The former Wrexham goalkeeper has joined the Ammies following three successful seasons at Wrexham, where he helped the North Wales club achieve three successive promotions.
alford’s new keeper also experienced promotion in the 2016-17 season whilst playing for Bolton Wanderers, when the Trotters finished second in League One and returned back to the Championship.
A player like Mark Howard will be significant to the mentality in the dressing room, as the Ammies have their ambitions set on promotion to the Sky Bet League One.
