A strong second half performance by the Rams in very damp conditions secured valuable points against the high-flying Swinton Lions.
Swinton Lions came into the game after winning four consecutive fixtures and were hoping to maintain this run.
However, despite their run of form they weren’t able to withhold the Rams attacks.
And despite Ellis Anderson having a good chance in the opening three minutes of the fixture, he went into the corner, but his inside pass landed with the Rams defender.
Both teams had chances in the opening ten minutes – and the scores remained level until the thirteenth minute when George Senior followed a kick to score on the left, but Jacob Hookem was unable to convert.
The Lions then battled back against Swinton Lions causing the defence problems but struggling to make a difference to the scoreline.
But their answers were found against the resilient defence after a huge knock on by Craig McShane put the Lions in the Rams twenty.
And from the scrum the defence eventually cracked when Anderson crashed in at the corner and Jack Stevens converted off the touchline to lead 4-6.
With the lead Swinton Lions didn’t have long before they were able to walk into the changing rooms for half time – but they were unable to hold out.
Dewsbury Rams scored in the dying seconds of the half when Dan Coates sent Jamie Gill over on the right and Hookem converted as the hooter sounded for the break to make it 10-6.
And it seemed that would be the end of Swinton Lions chance to get back into the game, as the Rams made a strong start to the second half.
The Rams were able to extend their lead in the 44th minute, as Hookem converted his penalty for a high shot in front of the posts.
And the kicker was able to extend the lead once again in the fifty-third minutes after another illegal tackle allowed another penalty to be taken.
However, the Lions were able to regain control in the fixture as Dewsbury continued to grow the points difference as Anderson and Louie Roberts messed up the restart on the twenty, allowing the Rams to break through with Caelum Jordan going down on the right, with Paul Sykes converting.
And despite the Lions attempts to break through – it seemed that it wasn’t to be their day as the Rams completed the victory with seven minutes left when some good passing saw Louie Walker cross in the left corner and Sykes converted from the touchline.
The game finished 26-6, and the Lions will need to re-find their form as they set sights on promotion – and they will have the chance to bounce-back against Midlands Hurricanes.
