St Ann’s Hospice has announced that they are changing their name in October honouring their inspirational founder and the work of hospice pioneers.
The name was announced today (Thursday 3 July) by the hospice, with it being changed to the Moya Cole Hospice from Wednesday 1 October.
Dr Moya Cole was a trailblazing woman who knew how important hospice care was, and still is, for the community – the hospice will continue and to serve and care for those impacted by life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones long into the future.
St Ann’s Hospice has held its name for over 50 years, and also shared that the name change has been made to reflect “the wonderful and diverse community that surrounds us and that we remain culturally relevant in our modern world.”
However, following the name change the hospice have shared that they know that “this will be difficult news” for many, but comes after years of discussion.
St Ann’s Hospice said: “The decision has not been taken lightly and has been made in conjunction with staff, volunteers, supporters and members of our community.
“While our name is changing, the outstanding care for our patients and their loved ones will remain the same.”
And with the new site opening in Heald Green, and with plans to refurbish Little Hulton in the near future, they believe that it is the right to make the change at this point in its journey.
Chaplaincy Support Coordinator at St Ann’s Hospice, Peter O’Brien said: “We may have changed our name to Moya Cole Hospice but with our modern new building, we aim to continue to provide what historically we have done since we first opened.
“In a healthcare setting where we support the whole person as they attempt to come to terms with a life-limiting and life-threatening illness.
“Our state-of-the-art hospice will be a safe environment where we’ll take into our protection a person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing,” he said.
St Ann’s Hospice also shared that regular donors, or someone who has left a gift in your will or play their lottery won’t need to take any action.
This will be as a result of charity number and trading company number staying the same, so changes won’t have to be made.
However, residents will notice that from October, when the change takes place, the name of the payee on your bank statement will change to Moya Cole Hospice.
