Clean Up Salford collect 1000th bag of litter - Quays Lib Dems

A community litter picking group, Clean Up Salford Quays, has celebrated a major milestone collecting over 1,000 bags of litter.

The campaign relaunched in October 2023, under the leadership of Councillor Paul Heilbron, and has been looking to make a difference in the community.

Originally launched with the goal of revitalising community action and environmental stewardship in the Quays, the campaign has grown into a truly collaborative effort.

And with the new major milestone being achieved at the collection held on Sunday 22 June, Leader of Salford Liberal Democrats Cllr Heilbron said: “Reaching 1,000 bags is more than just a number — it’s a testament to the power of community.

“We’ve shown what’s possible when people come together with pride in where they live and the drive to make it better.”

Since the campaign’s rebranding, Salford’s Liberal Democrats have led efforts to improve environmental standards across the Quays.

The group have made the effort of securing increased clean-up patrols from the Watersports Centre, supporting regular litter-picking events with local groups, and advocating for a long-term environmental plan for the area.

Following the achievement, Salford Quays Liberal Democrats celebrated the achievement and praised “the incredible support from the public”.

Cllr. Heilbron continued: “We want to say a heartfelt thank you to every resident who’s picked up a bag, joined a clean-up, or shared our campaign.

“Your time, energy and belief in a cleaner Quays has brought us to this point — and we’re only just getting started.”
