'A Squash and a Squeeze' - Lowry

The world premiere adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best-selling book ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ heads to Lowry this summer.

The musical adaptation is based on the original book, and will allow audiences to step into the magical world live on the Lowry stage.

Salford residents between the ages 3-8 years old have been recommened to attend the show – as they will be taken on a heartwarming and hilarious adventure.

The hour-production will take to the stage from Tuesday 5 to Sunday 24 August, as a part of a national tour.

The family theatre production has been on its tour this year since February, where it began at the Little Angel Theatre in Islington, where it will run until 23 December at Leicester Square theatre.

Full of beautiful puppets and enchanting songs, the co-production between Little Angel Theatre and Lowry will be brought to life by the Olivier Award-nominated duo Barb Jungr and Samantha Lane.

‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ will tell the story of a  little old lady lived all by herself in her cosy cottage, but she wasn’t happy – her house felt just too small.

With no solution, audiences will see the arrival of a flappy, scratchy, greedy, noisy crowd of farmyard animals.

The story will be brought to life by a great cast of three that includes Ruth Calkin, who has performed in Prince Charming (Little Angel Theatre), The Smartest Giant in Town (Fiery Light, West End), and the award-nominated solo performer show The Bed.

Alongside Mark Esaias from, Dogs Don’t Do Ballet (Little Angel Theatre); Jack and the Beanstalk (Norwich Puppet Theatre), and In the Night Garden LIVE (UK Tour).

And Chris Dobson, from the Dragons and Mythical Beasts (Nicoll Entertainment), The Singing Mermaid (Little Angel Theatre), and Oi Frog and Friends Live (Kenny Wax Family Entertainment).

Tickets to the show will cost £19, with guests being welcomed into the Quays Theatre between Tuesday 5  August and Sunday 24 August 2025.
