The city of Salford will commemorate Armed Forces Week by hosting a number of events including a flag raising ceremony and community parade this June.
The celebrations will be held between Monday 23 June to Saturday 28 June, with Salford residents being encouraged to join the commemorative events and come together to pay tribute to service personnel.
The annual event, hosted by towns and cities across the country, honouring the work of service personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets and service families and friends.
Salford’s Ceremonial Mayor Councillor Heather Fletcher, said: “Armed Forces Week will provide communities across Salford with a chance to come together to pay tribute to our Armed Forces past and present.
“It’s an important occasion dedicated to showing appreciation and support for the military community and is a time for us to come together to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions made by the Armed Forces.”
To begin the week, Salford City Council will be hosting a flag raising ceremony for Armed Forces Week on Monday 23 June 2025 at 10.30am to 10.45am. The event will take place on the front steps of Salford Civic Centre.
Tributes will be spread across Salford including town hall banners displayed on Salford Civic Centre in Swinton to show support in the community.
As well as that Salford’s Armed Forces Day Parade which will take place on Saturday 28 June will begin at Dukes Drive Car Park, Monton at 10.30am.
The parade will conclude at Winton Park, on Dover Street, where the family fun day will commence.
There will be fun activities including small children’s rides, face painting, a climbing wall, magician and lots of other great entertainment.
Service personnel, veterans and their families will all take part in the parade and will be joined by Salford’s Reservists and Cadet Units, Salford’s Ceremonial Mayor Councillor Heather Fletcher and Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett.
Ahead of the celebratory week, Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett added: “Our Armed Forces remain in our thoughts, and I’d like to thank them and all their families for all they do to protect our country.
“I am proud to stand alongside our Armed Forces community and residents of our great city, joining with the rest of the country in remembrance and gratitude.”
