Worsley and Eccles MP, Michael Wheeler has shared an constituency update regarding the future of Eccles Post Office Branch.

The update follows the decision made on Tuesday 12 November, proposing that the postal service which looked to offload 115 directly owned Crown Post Offices, which employ approximately 1,000 people.

Following the announcement, Wheeler MP was able to share an update today (Friday 6 June) on the future of the Eccles Post Office.

He said: “Many of you will know that Eccles Post Office is affected by Post Office Limited’s decision to move to a fully franchised network by Autumn 2025.

“I’ve now been informed that Eccles branch is due to be taken over by First Class Retail, led by experienced postmaster Mikesh Parekh.

The postmaster already  runs nine branches across Greater Manchester, with the change expected to happen by September 2025.

The Worsley and Eccles MP continued: “My understanding is that the branch will remain in its current location at 63 Church Street, M30 0NS, at least for now, with no changes to services or opening hours, other than extended opening on Tuesday mornings.

“This is to minimise disruption to the community. Any potential longer-term change, such as relocating the branch, is unlikely to happen before Spring 2026.”

Wheeler MP also shared that the Post Office are looking for feedback from local residents in a  “full local consultation.”

He continued: “I understand that many residents feel strongly about local services like the Post Office.

“While this change is not open to formal public feedback, I’ve been reassured that staff will be supported throughout and that Eccles will continue to benefit from a full range of Post Office services.”

Worsley and Eccles MP added: “I have asked for a meeting with the Post Office and First Class retail to seek assurances over the long term future of our branch and the services it offers.

“If you have concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. I’ll continue to keep a close eye on this and speak up to ensure local voices are heard and services are protected.”

He continued: “Thank you to everyone who has been in touch about this so far.”< For further information visit the Eccles Post Office Consultation Hub – you can find it here.
