The mother of a teenager who died in a traffic collision in Salford has paid tribute to her ‘funny and genuine son.’
Kaine Darby, 17, died along with a 16-year-old boy after the motorbike they were riding was in a collision on Lower Broughton Road at 8.20pm on 22 May 2025.
The families of the two boys are being specialist officers as the investigation into the incident continues.
The 24-year-old female driver of the car stayed at the scene to assist officers, and no arrests have been made.
In a tribute released via GMP, Danielle Hughes said: “Kaine was a loving, caring, funny and genuine son, brother, and friend.
“I will miss you so much and so will your two little sisters who love you and looked up to you as their big brother.”
She continued: “You were doing so well considering everything you have been through over the last few years.
“You were getting up each morning, going to college and doing everything you needed to do.
“As your mum, I had a bad feeling about this day, but you made your own decisions. I wish you didn’t on this day, but if you’re happy son, then so am I.”
His mother then went onto ask for privacy and respect during this time, as Danielle Hughes said: “I don’t condone the behaviour that has been going on at the scene since the accident – the spray-painting, vandalism and motorbikes riding round.
“This is not what Kaine would have wanted. We want peace and to remember Kaine calmly, surrounded by his loved ones,” she added: “This has shocked the whole family. It was a tragic accident that should never have happened that I don’t want to tarnish Kaine’s legacy.”
She continued: “Me and my family now wish for some privacy at this time.
“Kaine, I will do you proud son, just as I am proud of you. Big hugs, my G. Love you to the moon and back xxxx.”
Specialist collision investigators are continuing to appeal for information.
