Salford knitters The Big Knit 2025

Salford knitters are being asked to create hats which will be sold with smoothies to raise money to help older people.

Age UK is inviting Salford crafters to a knitathon on June 19 in aid of the national Big Knit Campaign sponsored by drinks company innocent.

Each knitted hat will be matched with an innocent smoothie bottle which will be available in selected UK retailers from October 2025.

For every ‘be-hatted’ smoothie sold, Age UK will receive 30p, which will go towards making a difference to the lives of older people.

Emma Rose, chief executive officer of Age UK Salford and Trafford, said: “We are so grateful to everybody who has been knitting for the Big Knit so far this year.”

The money raised from local knitters will be used to help Age UK Salford and Trafford provide information, advice and friendship to the local older population.

Emma Rose said: “It’s thanks to fundraising initiatives like the Big Knit that we’re able to continue providing our vital services and helping older people in the local community.”

The Age UK Salford and Trafford knitathon will be at the Wellington Inn, Irlams o’ th’ Height, on Thursday June 19  from 1-3pm.
