A six-week consultation has been launched across the city to seek public views on the proposal for yellow box junction cameras.
The consultation has been launched by Salford City Council, on the proposals, and if approved the cameras will be installed at locations at the M602 roundabout, Regent Road and Trinity Way.
The six-week consultation was launched on Tuesday 20 May and will seek public views until Friday 4 July.
Yellow boxes are put in place to help prevent blockages at major junctions, and drivers should not enter a yellow box unless their exit is clear.
However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.
The yellow box junction cameras would use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to enforce traffic rules.
The proposed cameras will also aim to prevent drivers stopping illegally in the boxes, leading to a fine.
The proposals are to install the cameras at West side of the Regent Road M602 Roundabout, East side of the Regent Road M602 Roundabout and Junction of Regent Road and Oldfield Road.
As well as the Junction of Regent Road and Ordsall Lane and the Junction of Trinity Way and Irwell Street.
Councillor Mike McCusker, Lead Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainable Development at Salford City Council, said: “The overall aim is to reduce congestion and improve journey times on the city’s roads. Yellow boxes are there to stop gridlock and help keep the traffic flowing.
“These yellow box enforcement cameras are proposed to assist in the delivery of the Greater Manchester investment-led Clean Air Plan, to help traffic move better and improve air quality.
“We are interested in the views of local people and have launched this consultation. Make sure you have your say before it closes on Friday 4 July.”
