Chapel Street

Salford residents are encouraged avoid travelling via the partially closed Chapel Street with “nearly 100,000 people expected”to  travel into Manchester City centre.

Salford City Council have shared that roads in Salford are expected to busy with “Bruce Springsteen, Kylie Minogue and Manchester City all playing at the Co-op Live, AO Arena and Etihad respectively.”

The council continued: “Chapel St westbound remains closed and we encourage anyone travelling into the city to plan ahead.”

The road has been closed since Monday 5 May, with a one-way closure on Chapel Street heading towards Salford (westbound), between Blackfriars Road and New Bailey, until early 2026 – with alternative route available.

A contract worth nearly £4 million awarded to transform Chapel Street and New Bailey – via Salford City Council

The area is set to undergo a period of transformational change and regeneration that has already established it as an attractive and dynamic place to live and work.

The transformational change will see Salford City Council rebalance the space in favour of pedestrians and cyclists, whilst also catering for buses and general traffic.

Ahead of the nights events, residents are also encouraged to use alternative routes or public transport if possible and use the Bee Network app or website – which can be found here.

Salford City Council are also encouraged to keep up to date with the latest travel information – as “roads in and around the city centre will be particularly busy.”
