Salford Red Devils are preparing for a trip to Castleford where they will be hoping to secure their second league victory.
The Red Devils have been struggling for form in the league, and currently sit bottom of the division, with only win registered and sat on -331 points difference.
And as Paul Rowley’s men approach the fixture, they will be hoping to maximise their chances of returning to winning ways as they face 10th place Castleford Tigers.
Castleford Tigers have only managed two wins this season, with both coming against 12th place Salford Red Devils and 11th place Huddersfield Giants.
And with the Salford and the Tigers being separated by two points, a win will be a major boost for Paul Rowley’s side who will be looking for a confidence boost.
The Red Devils are without a win since the 20 March, the near two-month gap without a win will be looming over the Red Devils for this fixture.
However, the return of star man Nene MacDonald to the squad will be a major boost for the Red Devils – especially after their Magic Weekend defeat losing 54-0 to Hull KR.
The PNG international star, and 2024 Dream Team inductee will be reintroduced for the fixture after returning from his subsequent loan move to Oldham RLFC and a trip home to Australia for the birth of his child.
His addition to the squad will be a major boost for Red Devils supporters who will be hoping that his return will lead them to victory.
And after only playing three games for Salford this year, he will be hoping to become an important member of the squad once again.
And this was echoed by head coach Paul Rowley, he said: “Yeah, it’s great. Obviously, he’s had a very unsettled year. Even looking all the way back to playing in the Pacific Cup and therefore having no pre-season with us, then coming into the turmoil we all know there has been – and so he’s not played.
“It’s a great boost for him as well as us, but I’m pleased he gets to pull on the Salford jersey again, and obviously for us as well. But without adding pressure to him, he’ll take a few weeks no doubt to get back into the swing of things.”
And with financial worries and off field issues impacting the club, with the council ending all negotiations with Jacobson Management regarding the future of Salford Community Stadium.
A performance on the pitch today, would really appease the travelling fans on the Sunday evening fixture.
The game will kick off at The Jungle at 5:30pm on Sunday 18 May – more information can be found here.
