Salford City will travel to already relegated Carlisle United this weekend in the hopes of securing a playoff position.
The Ammies will travel to the Brunton Park, in need of three points that will allow them to finish in the top seven, as they aim for promotion to League One.
A win against the already relegated Carlisle United, will see the Ammies extend their season and be two fixtures away from Wembley.
Salford will be arriving at the fixture full of confidence, after dominant performance against Colchester United – who were sat a point above them before the fixture.
The Ammies were able to win their final game at the Peninsula Stadium, with a 4-1 victory against The U’s cementing their position in the playoffs after Grimsby dropped points.
Salford City took an early lead with Hakeeb Adelakun scoring in the second minute from the spot – which led to a further flurry of goals.
The Ammies extended their lead through a Liam Shephard 21st minute goal, and Cole Stockton hitting the back of the net three minutes later.
And despite being 3-0 at half time, they were able to extend their lead through a second penalty by Hakeeb Adelakun just before the hour mark.
Colchester were able to score a 66th minute consolation goal, with Ellis Landolo scoring but the damage was already done.
Karl Robinsons’ have found their form at the right point of the season picking up ten points out of a possible 15, improving significantly on their February and early March performances.
But as they approach the final game of the season, they will be hoping to maintain their form with three teams below them still having a chance of promotion.
Salford currently are sat in the final position on sixty-eight points, with Grimsby Town on the same total, Chesterfield sit on sixty-seven points, and Colchester rest in 10th position on sixty-six points.
Carlise will be walking into the fixture with a deflated feeling, The Cumbrians have secured 23rd position and will fall out of the fourth division.
And with the Ammies set to face a side with nothing to play for, it should give them the best chance of holding their position in the playoff positions.
However, despite the home side already being relegated, Karl Robinsons’ side will have to be cautious as Carlisle may be looking for their last victory in the division before dropping into the National League.
Nonetheless, Salford City should expect strong support for the fixture with the initial allocation selling out – which has now been extended as they hope for a perfect ending to the regular season.
The fixture will kick-off at the Brunton Park at 3pm – more information can be found here.
