An independent Salford City supporters’ group that provides a monthly issue of fanzine will donate £2000 to a local homeless charity this weekend.
The Old Dead Tree Fanzine will be celebrating their seventh issue of the magazine against Colchester United on Saturday 26 April, and will be donating the funds from across the season to the Salford Loaves and Fishes.
Salford Loaves and Fishes are a charity, support the homeless, isolated, and vulnerable in Salford and the surrounding area.
The charity provide a Drop In centre that is open from Monday to Friday between 9am -12.30pm, as well offering Skills for Life Centre.
The fanzine group shared how their work influenced their decision: “We wanted it to be a charity in Salford, as we are from Salford, it’s our community. So, we wanted the Salford people to receive help from a charitable donation.
“We basically did a Google search and then started looking into Salford Loaves and Fishes a bit more.
“They do dinners for the homeless and that feed them every day. So, we went in and saw people coming in.”
This Saturday, we will be on the pitch at 14.30 b4 @colchesterutdfc game, to present the Cheque of £2,000 to Salford Loaves and Fishes.
This is money made from you, the fans, when you buy the Fanzine from us. Come to the game early & celebrate this fantastic achievement. ❤️⚽️❤️— The Old Dead Tree (@OldDeadTreeSCFC) April 22, 2025
The fanzine was created off the back of a ‘WhatsApp chat that’s mostly banter’ was able to come to life and now release monthly issues.
The Fanzine includes stories about football but also articles about people’s time within the City of Salford and has also been sold around the world.
The chairman of the committee Kevin Wright told Salford Now, “Whenever Manchester United are playing on the Sunday, we get a good influence of fans from around the world.
“The fanzine goes to Norwegian; Portugal fans and they tend to link in with us as well on the Saturday.”
As well as this Jo Wright also shared that the fanzine has been shared further than just Salford, Jo said: “We’ve sent a couple over to Australia, sent some to America, we have also sent quite a lot to Ireland.”
The Old Dead Tree is now on its seventh issue, which will be sold outside the stadium on Saturday 26 April – as they added: “It’s a magazine by the fans, for the fans”.
The donation will see the fanzine giveaway £2000 at the Peninsula Stadium at 14:30pm to the local Salford charity ahead of the fixture.
