An independent Salford City supporters’ group that produces a monthly fanzine will donate £2,000 to a local homeless charity this weekend.

The Old Dead Tree Fanzine will be celebrating the seventh issue of the magazine against Colchester United on Saturday April 26, and will be donating the funds from across the season to Salford Loaves and Fishes before the match.

Salford Loaves and Fishes is a charity supporting homeless, isolated, and vulnerable people in Salford and the surrounding area.

The charity provides a drop-in centre from Monday to Friday  between 9am and12.30pm, as well offering Skills for Life Centre.

The fanzine group stated: “We wanted it to be a charity in Salford, as we are from Salford, it’s our community. So, we wanted the Salford people to receive help from a charitable donation.

“We basically did a Google search and then started looking into Salford Loaves and Fishes a bit more.

“They do dinners for the homeless and that feed them every day. So, we went in and saw people coming in.”

The fanzine includes stories about football but also articles about people’s time within the City of Salford and has also been sold around the world.

The chairman of the committee Kevin Wright said: “Whenever Manchester United are playing on the Sunday, we get a good influence of fans from around the world.

“The fanzine goes to Norwegian; Portugal fans and they tend to link in with us as well on the Saturday.”

Supporter Jo Wright said: “We’ve sent a couple over to Australia, sent some to America, we have also sent quite a lot to Ireland.”

The Old Dead Tree will be sold outside the stadium on Saturday 26 April under the slogan: “It’s a magazine by the fans, for the fans”.
