Salford City are preparing for a battle against Colchester United as both teams will be fighting for a playoff position.

The Ammies will be looking to walk away with all three points, and with two league games remaining, every point will be vital for a play-off finish.

And with Colchester approaching the game only a position above the Karl Robinsons’ side, both teams will be looking at this game as a must-win.

With it all to play for with two games to go, Salford City will be walking into the fixture full of confidence after a strong 3-1 victory against Morecambe.

The away performance from the Ammies saw goals from Ossama Ashley, Cole Stockton and, Kelly Nmai separating the two sides.

And with Colchester United approaching the fixture following a 3-0 defeat to Doncaster, Karl Robinsons’ side will be more confident than the travelling away side.

And this will be further encouraged with Salford being the victors in the team’s last meeting in October.

The Ammies were able to travel back from Colchester with all three points, in a 2-1 victory – a result that saw Kelly N’Mai and Kouassi get on the scoresheet.

But in the reverse fixture, the Salford head coach will be hoping for more of the same with an even greater atmosphere as the game will be the last at the Peninsula Stadium of the regular season.

And with strong support, they will be hoping that this isn’t the final game of the campaign until August this year – with the playoff ambitions still firmly set.

The two sides, however, will be approaching this game in similar form both picking up eight points in the last five fixtures – with Salford rising up the table, but Colchester unfortunately dropping out of the playoff positions on Monday.

But the Ammies despite the deserved confidence will have to be cautious in their approach to the game as Colchester United manager X, promised that his side wouldn’t be giving up now.

He said: “We’re going to go there and give it a right go. We haven’t come this far, just to come this far.”

A win for either side will be major for their season ambitions, and will take them into the final day with something to play for – but all eyes will also be on Grimsby, who will need to lose to give up their playoff spot.

The game will kick-off at 3pm on Saturday 26 April – with more information about the fixture and tickets found here.
