Boothstown residents came together to celebrate their village heritage and honour the life of community champion Beryl Howard.
Honouring her legacy, the Boothstown Residents Association installed a new historical plinth at Standfield Precinct Green on Wednesday April 9.
The idea was first conceived by the association in autumn 2024, and was inspired by a desire to preserve the village’s rich history.
The project quickly gained support from the Worsley Civic Trust and Boothstown Village Hall, and with the help of local builders Schofield and Sons, designer Leigh Walsh, and M&A Brown Signs, the vision became a reality.
And following the support from dedicated local businesses, a grant from Salford City Council, and contributions from Boothstown Community Centre – it has finally be installed.
The unwavering support of local councillors and volunteers highlighted Boothstown’s strong sense of community spirit – and will serve as heartfelt tribute to Beryl Howard.
The former councillor and longtime Chair of the Residents Association, who died in 2022, was a driving force behind many of Boothstown’s most cherished projects and events.
And through this gesture, the community have been able to give back to someone who dedicated their life to the betterment of the community.
Beryl’s impact has been felt in the community, as after her passing, the structured activities of the Association temporarily slowed.
But in 2023 a dedicated group of residents, both new and long-standing, came together to revive the organisation and continue Beryl’s work.
Following on from the group’s restart they have been able to secure funding of local projects, and show their support for “In Bloom” planting initiatives.
The group were also able to work hard to see the installation of new Christmas lights, replacing the outdated decorations.
Vincent Nash, neighbourhood manager for Salford City Council, said: “It is inspiring to see local residents devoting their time and effort to improve the community through this and other local projects.”
The Boothstown Residents Association hopes the plinth will serve as both an educational resource and a symbol of the village’s strong community ties.
