Black smoke is visible in the Salford sky this afternoon after a huge blaze broke out involving a large pile of tyres.
Emergency services were made aware of the blaze with two fire engines from Agecroft, Broughton and Salford fire stations being called to the incident.
The incident is known to be taking place on Duchy Road in Salford, with smoke being seen across Salford.
One eyewitness who was passing the fire via public transport said: “When I passed the fire, it was a thick black cloud and there was a large red flame.
“I was inside a train carriage but I could genuinely feel the heat from the inside.”
The fire is known to involve a ‘large pile of tyres’ with the emergency service crews being called to the scene this afternoon.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 1.50pm on Tuesday (April 8) two fire engines from Agecroft, Broughton and Salford fire stations were called to a fire involving a large pile of tyres off Duchy Road, Salford.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using jets to tackle the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
