Funding plans have been made available for Salford residents who need financial support with the cost-of-living.
Residents will be able to apply for the Household Support Fund (HSF) that will be available from Tuesday 1 April 2025 to Tuesday 30 September 2025.
Salford City Council have unveiled the allocation plans to help cover cost for food, fuel, and energy, regardless of benefit status.
The HSF was previously covered from October 2024 to March 2025, with the council receiving 6,000 applications for support, providing over 17,000 holiday food vouchers to families and children during school holidays.
Residents will be able to access the funding with it being distributed by Salford City Council’s Salford Assist team.
The funding will be awarded via shopping vouchers and fuel meter top ups to those who meet the eligibility criteria – and residents do not have to be in receipt of benefits or other benefits and pension credits, as all applications will be considered.
And with the HSF being launched today, Councillor Tracy Kelly, Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council, said: “The Household Support Fund is a vital resource for our community.
“Our commitment in Salford is to make sure vulnerable residents are supported in the best way possible and ensure that every resident facing financial challenges receives the necessary support.
“This latest funding round reinforces our ongoing effort to build a fairer, more inclusive society.”
The funding will also be used to provide direct financial support to eligible residents to cover essential costs.
As well as issuing holiday food vouchers to children eligible for Free School Meals, and enable Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) partners to deliver food banks, food clubs, and food schemes.
The plans will also support additional council services including housing and adult social care for those affected by the cost-of-living.
Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett added: “This fund has been instrumental in providing essential assistance to our residents, helping with critical costs such as food and heating, and ensuring children do not go without food during school holidays.
“I urge any resident facing financial difficulties to explore the support available through the Household Support Fund.”
The funding has come from the Department for Work and Pensions and forms as a part of Salford’s wider Tackling Poverty strategy which aims to make Salford a fairer and more inclusive place – more information about the funding and how to apply being found here.
