Salford Shopping City art exhibition - Pendleton Sixth Form College

A Salford college hosted a vibrant creative art exhibition at Salford Shopping City to display their creativity.

The art exhibition was hosted by Pendleton Sixth Form College, and allowed students to display an impressive selection of artwork.

The work presented was presented on Saturday 8 March at Salford Shopping City was in response to three distinct project briefs.

The exhibition displayed the breadth and depth of talent within the College’s Creative Arts Department.

One of the projects was named Hidden in Plain Sight and was showcased by students.

The work was inspired by the work of Salford artist Ben Ark and Sheffield-based artist Mandy Payne – and encouraged students to explore the often-overlooked details of everyday life.

The project was made in collaboration with these professional artists, students from the Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art Design course as well as selected A-level textiles students.

The students were able to create unique pieces that captured unseen perspectives and hidden beauty within familiar surroundings.

The art exhibition also showcased a project called Generate / Regenerate, where Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art Design students worked with poet Oliver James Lomax and musician Pete Whitfield.

Students were able to create artwork reflecting themes of regeneration, rewilding, repurposing land, history, and the contrast between nature and industry.

The exhibition included banners displayed across the unit’s windows, part of a larger collection of thirty banners originally created for The Embassy of Utopia at Manchester Central Library during the Greater Manchester Festival of Libraries in June 2024.

Another highlight in the exhibition was the Folklore and Live Brief Collaboration with the work being developed through a live brief with writer David Hartley.

The work spanned across multiple creative disciplines, including fashion design and ceramics, demonstrating the diverse skills and artistic approaches of Pendleton students.

The exhibition not only provided a platform for these young creatives to highlight their skills but also display the college’s role in nurturing the next generation of artists, designers, and creators.

By collaborating with professional artists, writers, and musicians, Pendleton students have been able to create thought provoking work that reflects students’ dedication and passion for the arts.
