Ofsted Staff and children from Barton Moss Children's Centre nursery - Salford City Council

A nursery in Eccles has been recognised as doing ‘great work with children’ and rated as good by Ofsted following its latest inspection.

Barton Moss Children’s Centre Nursery is one of the council’s five Salford Family Nurseries which offer high quality, affordable childcare for children aged five months to five years old.

The nurseries in the area all offer innovative and unique facilities as well as passionate and qualified nursery staff.

Following the inspection, the nursery received a good rating in all areas, with positive comments about care for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

The Ofsted report said: “Leaders have created a lively, exciting and nurturing environment which enables children to grow and develop.

“Children arrive happy and eager to learn. They are soon absorbed in activities with their friends.

“Staff build positive relationships with the children. This enables them to create individual learning plans and activities to help each child succeed.”

The report also shared that children go to familiar staff when they are either upset or tired – and are active and interested learners.

The report continued: “Staff have high aspirations for children and want them to do well. They know when to step in to provide additional support, such as helping babies put on their coats.”

However, the staff also have been noted to let children be independent if they require it and allow them to build confidence “Staff have high aspirations for children and want them to do well. They know when to step in to provide additional support, such as helping babies put on their coats.”

The report added: “All children including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) develop confidence in their own abilities. They learn the skills that they need to move on to the next stage in their learning.”

Following the report, Councillor Cammell, Lead Member of Children’s Services at Salford City Council said: “We’re really pleased Barton Moss Nursery has been given this good Ofsted rating.

“It is a fantastic report and really sings the praises of the team at Barton, their creativity, and high aspirations for all children, particularly the support for those with additional needs.”

Cllr. Cammell continued: “We are very proud of our staff who have helped to ensure all Salford City Council’s Salford Family Nurseries have received a good rating from Ofsted.”

The report also is significant for Salford City Council’s work towards becoming a UNICEF Child-Friendly City, to ensure Salford is a great place for children and young people to grow up and feel safe.
