Plans have been submitted to build a new multi-story car park on the University of Salford campus.
The plans have been prepared by Iceni Projects on behalf of the University of Salford to development of a multi-storey car park at the Allerton Car Park.
Otherwise known as Frederick Road car park, the site will see the construction of a ground plus one multi-storey car park, providing 468 parking spaces.
The development of the car park will see an increase of 133 spaces compared to the existing surface car park.
The new multi-storey car park will also include 42 electric vehicle charging points, 16 new disabled parking bays, and enhanced CCTV and lighting for lighting for user safety.
The design incorporated a flat deck solution with a single ramp, allowing vehicles to cover the full story height and minimizing circulation areas.
The Officer’s committee report for the Mary Seacole redevelopment stated that “they seek to promote the right mix of sustainable travel choices for the area.”
The car park will also aim to limit the impacts of car use and prioritising and encouraging walking, cycling and public transport use.
The University of Salford’s decision to pursue this project aligns with the Crescent Development Framework, which aims to improve the campus’s overall attractiveness and reduce the amount of land used for parking.
The new outlined framework also promotes sustainable transport options, encouraging walking, cycling, and public transport use.
And the proposed development is expected to reduce overall number of vehicle trips across the campus, contributing to the University’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2038.
The planning application is currently under review by Salford City Council, and if approved, the new multi-storey car park will provide a high-quality, safe and secure environment for staff and students to park, conveniently located near the university.
