A strategic regeneration forum has been launched to accelerate growth across Salford, bringing together public and private sector partners in a major collaboration.
The Salford Strategic Regeneration Forum (SRF) was officially unveiled today in Cannes, France, at the world’s leading property market event.
The event Le Marché International des Professionnels de L’immobilier (MIPIM) brought together Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, and Homes England, alongside developers Peel Land and Muse, who are the first delivery partners to sign up.
The SRF aims to push Salford’s regeneration beyond the city centre, identifying opportunities for growth in neighbourhoods and towns.
By combining public sector oversight with private sector expertise, the forum hopes to deliver housing, infrastructure, business, retail, and leisure projects more efficiently.
Deputy City Mayor Jack Youd, who leads on regeneration at Salford City Council, said: “Our vision is to create a fairer, greener, healthier, and more inclusive city for all.
“The forum will help us achieve this by increasing the quality, pace, and scale of regeneration across Salford.”
Councillor Youd continued to recognise that Salford has seen significant regeneration over the past few decades, achieved by the greenlit schemes.
The forum has been designed as an alternative to a Mayoral Development Corporation allowing Salford to shape its regeneration strategy while collaborating with developers who have a strong history within the city.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham welcomed the initiative, calling it an exciting partnership that will deliver much needed homes, jobs, and investment.
He said: “We’re committed to supporting the forum and it’s important work.
“Creating much-needed new homes, high quality jobs, and making our neighbourhoods better places to live.”
Salford’s regeneration has already transformed large areas of the city with projects such as Media City, Salford Central and RHS Bridgewater attracting major investment.
Phil Marsden, Managing Director Northwest at Muse, said: “Salford has seen significant growth and investment in recent years.”
“The forum will act as a catalyst for enhanced collaboration, enabling us to create more high-quality, sustainable places that meet the needs of the city’s vibrant communities.”
Meanwhile Peel Land’s Managing Director, Stephen Wild, said: “We have jointly delivered landmark schemes, most notably Media City and the Salford Community Stadium.
“We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with Salford and all our partners.”
The newly launched SRF will now begin identifying priority projects and unlocking funding opportunities.
The forum is expected to grow as more developers and organisations sign up to help shape Salford’s next phase of transformation.
And as the city continues to attract investment and development, the forum’s ambition is clear – to make Salford a national leader is sustainable, inclusive growth while delivering real benefits for its residents.
