A former England academy prospect has joined Salford Red Devils Women backroom staff as he aims to get his coaching qualifications.
29-year-old, Dave Hewitt will join the Salford Red Devils women team after most recently playing for League One side, Midlands Hurricanes before calling time on his playing career.
The former scrumhalf who began his career at St Helens, but never made an appearance for the first team, will join the Red Devils coaching staff and work towards achieving his coaching qualifications.
Throughout his career, he was able to go on loan to Oldham in 2015 before joining Sheffield Eagles – where he went back to Oldham on loan again before joining Roughyeds permanently in 2017.
And after six successful years at Roughyeds, where he played 115 times, scoring thirty-four tries and kicking 91 goals, as well as playing for, Rochdale Hornets and most recently, Midlands Hurricanes.
With a wealth of experience, he will join a now-four-person coaching team and will hope to bring more to the Red Devils attack as the 2025 Championship season comes into focus.

Dave Hewitt said: “Due to numerous things off-field, I was unable to continue as a player and I spoke to Mike Grady (Red Devils women’s head coach) a few times during my time off.
“Mike coached me at Rochdale and knew I had an interest in going into coaching, and he reached out to offer me a position in his coaching staff here.
“Having time to think about it and Mike welcoming me to have a look around, it was a no-brainer to come in and support the coaches in attack, as well as it fitting around my other commitments – which presented me with another new challenge to stay within the game.
He continued: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the start so far and looking forward to the season starting!”
Hewitt played for England at schoolboys and academy level and earned praise from rugby league legend Barrie McDermott, who noted his ability to engage defenders and his strength of character.
And following the addition of Hewitt to the backroom staff, Head coach Mike Grady said: “I’m really pleased Dave will be joining us on the coaching staff.
“He was always looking at getting into coaching when he called time on his playing career; he brings exactly what we are looking for and adds balance to the coaching group.
Grady continued: “He has a wealth of experience in the professional game as a player and a leader, this is already benefitting our playing group during this pre-season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him develop as a coach whilst adding value to us as a group as we look forward to the 2025 season.”
