A former Salford theatre student has landed the lead role in the UK and Ireland tour of the musical Hamilton, marking the journey from local talent to rising star.

Marley Fenton, from the Pendleton School of Theatre, has begun his impressive journey in the arts after landing the latest milestone role.

The former Salford student then graduated from ArtsEd, and debuted as an understudy for the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz at the Palladium. He is also set to appear in Wicked’s upcoming sequel.

From these performances, he won the 2024 Black British Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor – and also featured  as Danny Zuko in the current UK and Ireland tour of the musical Grease.

Marley’s dance teacher at Pendleton, Emma Lingard, who has been following his progress, recalls the first time she met him.

She said: “When Marley came to us in 2018, he was an absolute ball of energy and a very hard worker.

“He took part with in the first couple of weeks in our induction showcase and then went from strength to strength, ending his time at Pendleton playing the lead in Phantom of the Opera.”

Pendleton School of Theatre has long been known for producing stars like Michelle Keegan, Faye Brookes and Tom Glynn-Carney – and its award-winning performing arts department has provided students with a platform to launch successful careers in the arts.

Emma continued: “All the faculty here that teach are extremely passionate about every student that comes through our door and what is right for them.

“I feel like we are lucky that our student intake are passionate about performing arts.

“It is like a big family here. We are so supportive of not only our students that go on to fantastic success, but every student that passes through our doors whatever they go on to do.”
