A 14-year-old Salford musician has released a new single as he aims to make waves in the music industry with this new indie-style song.

John Denton from Irlam-o’th heights, has seen a lot of success at early age gaining recognition as the frontman of the band The Height.

The band were able to release several singles that collectively amassed over 25,000 streams and it seems to have had its positive experience on John.

Despite John only being 14, he has gained a lot of music experience being featured on NME, Far Out, Granada Reports, BBC 5 Live, BBC Radio Manchester and XS Manchester.

His musical talents have also seen recognition when he won the prestigious Johnny Marr Award in 2023, and was able to meet the musician himself.

A moment he won’t forget, as he said: “Johnny was my absolute hero – and I am not just saying that because I won the award! He was way before and to receive that off of him was unreal.”

And during his time with the band, they were offered the chance to perform at the Salford City’s Stadium, and were involved in the kit launch of the 2023/24 season.

However, his solo musical journey has begun and its seems that he is following the same route to success that he has already experienced.

The 14-year-old musician has released his first solo single called Not the Same.

The song is a a relentless Indie tune with a catchy guitar rhythm – throughout the song listeners will be able to experience a story of inequality in the world in situation that all find ourselves in.

Throughout the new release, John has taken influence from a mix of bands including The Courteeners and The Smiths – hoping to stay rooted to his Salford upbringing.

During the song, the young musician also covers the topic of modern day pressures and mental health issues that aren’t targeted a specific generation.

Now embarking in his solo career there is a lot of opportunity for the young man to continuing into the music space.

The song is powerful, and is reminder to his listeners that it is okay not to be okay – and that is a common theme for many people and that everyone has various ways of dealing with hardships.

Beautifully written by the 14-year-old, it is very to quick to forget his age and is testament to his talents which seem years ahead of the rest.
