Salford families are set to be entertained as a multi-million-copy-selling series The Koala Who Could at the Lowry this Easter.
The series by Rachel Bright and Jim Field, which follows Kevin, King of the staying-still-kings, the wombats and Kangaroo will brought to life on stage.
The newly adapted family musical is an empowering and chuckle-out-loud story about embracing change — whether we like it or not.
The show will be visited the Lowry from Tuesday 8 to Sunday 13 April as a part of a world premiere tour – bringing the winner of the Sainsbury’s Book Award and the Evening Standard Oscar’s Book Prize to life.
The Koala Who Could is adapted and directed by Emma Earle (Oi Frog and Friends) who said: “It’s a thrill to be bringing this empowering and chuckle-out-loud story about embracing change — whether we like it or not — to life on stage.”
The show will also entertain all the family with the featured music and lyrics by Eamonn O’Dwyer, known for work on the The Lion Inside.
Eamonn said: “Just like The Lion Inside, Rachel & Jim have created a beautiful, vibrant and colourful world for Kevin and his friends in The Koala Who Could.
“And once again I’m absolutely delighted to be bringing that world to musical life, with all the boing-ing, thump-ing and thrumming that you’d expect in the Australian Outback!”
The Lion Inside play saw critical and commerical success, delighting audiences throughout the UK and internationally last year, this second collaboration will spread positivity to more families.
The show will also be co-produced by Lowry, Rose Theatre, Nicoll Entertainment, Northern Stage, Unicorn Theatre, and MAST Mayflower Studios.
And the show will aim to entertain all audiences of all ages from children and adultas
Matt Eames – Head of Theatres (Contemporary & Commissioning), said, “We know how much families love coming to Lowry to see their favourite stories played out on stage.
“I think children and adults alike can all recognise themselves in Kevin the Koala – we all feel a bit Kevin from time to time!”
