The iconic band, including stars of the Madchester scene Shaun Ryder and Mark “Bez” Berry, started their journey in Salford back in 1980, before going on to sell out venues around the world and reach platinum status.
The band’s seminal 1990 hits “Step On” and “Kinky Afro” both reached no.5 in the UK charts, with the former reaching platinum status.
The fixture will be the first game at the stadium since being taken over by Salford City Council – and has received a mixture of concern from fans with the club currently facing a compliance investigation from the RFL.
The club are also facing worries with restricted team selection under the sustainability cap, which is still in place due to the recent change in ownership.
Following the announcement fans have shared their concerns from the recent band announcement, as Bernadette Capes, said: “Nothing like getting your priorities right. What a nonsense announcement.”
Paul Gibson added: “I think I’d have preferred a different announcement about something far more important.”
However, other fans were positive hoping that the performance from the local Salford band will bring some life and enjoyment to back to the club in a time of worry.
The performances from the iconic Salford band could be the lift the team needs to kick on their campaign, as they look for their first league win of the season.
Fans can secure their tickets for Saturday’s fixture here, with adult tickets starting from £24.50 each – and tickets can be found here.
