A sports event is offering a free taster sessions for people with disabilities in Salford this February.
The free event at Salford Leisure Centre in Irlam and Cadishead will be offering a variety of activities to help those with disabilities to find a sport that they enjoy.
Guests will be able to get a taste of different sports on February 28, with the help of organisations such as Sale Sharks, England Netball, and Lancashire County Cricket.
The organisers will aim capture the voices of local disabled people, and help the leisure centre understand what opportunities can be started up in Salford.
Strategic Policy and Partnerships Lead, Michael Tuson from the Salford Leisure Centre said: “We know that there’s a gap in opportunity for some activities which means Salford people have to travel to other towns or cities to access a specific sport such as wheelchair tennis, blind football, or deaf rugby.”
Guests of the events will be able to get a taste for different sports from 11am to 2pm – and trial a variety of different sports.
In addition to the activities, there will be organisations in the room, including the Salford Disability Forum, which offer activities and support to disabled people who want to get active in Salford.
“If the event is successful, we will plan future events to continue gathering community voice to direct our local offer” Michael added.
After the event, they plan to collect all feedback and input from those who attended and the information gathered will then be used to call for action from the organisations that supported the event.
