St Helens broke the Betfred Super League record for widest winning margin as they ran in 15 tries against a selection restricted Salford Red Devils.

The Red Devils conceded an 82-0 defeat in the opening round of the season, after being bound to a £1.2million sustainability cap.

The cap was in place after the club failed to prove to the Rugby Football League with the necessary requirements to lift the restriction following their takeover last week.

Following this restriction, Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley opted to rest the majority of his first-team squad due to the sustainability cap.

And led to the debut of seven reserve players who were named part of a 16-man squad, Lucas Coan, Sean Murray, Finley Yates, Jimmy Shields, Harrison Hope, John Hutchings and Logan Lagar.

The Red Devils said in a club statement earlier this week that they were hopeful the situation will be resolved by the time they host Leeds next weekend.

The Saints were able to prove their dominance scoring four tries in the first 15 minutes through Morgan Knowles, Murphy, Sailor and Curtis Sironen.

And continued their dominance with Saints’ rising star Harry Robertson, bagging a first-half brace while Knowles also got his second to give his side a comfortable 38-0 advantage.

With the youthful away side out of reach, the home side continued to showcase their dominance following the restart with player-of-the-match Sailor completing a second-half hat-trick and his fourth of the game.

Feldt, Jonny Lomax, Mark Percival, Joe Batchelor and George Delaney also got on the scoresheet for the Saints in the second half as they wrapped up an enormous 82-0 win against an inexperienced Salford side at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The Red Devils will now have to turn their attention to the second round fixture against Leeds Rhinos – more information can be found here.
