Ahead of Valentines Day, many single residents will be looking for events to celebrate the rise of Anti-Valentines Week.
Single residents of Salford are being encouraged to join in the fun and rebellious alternative to traditional Valentine’s celebrations.
Anti-Valentines Week is celebrated between February 15 and 21, and will be able to focuses on self-love, independence, and embracing life without the pressure of romantic expectations.
However, as the week approaches we have constructed list for those around Salford looking for a sense of fulfilment through independence and rich cultural experiences – and there are a variety to choose from the White Hotel and the Lowry.
And these experiences can be found in Salford, which is rich for its art and music culture can provide distraction and even enrichment going into and across the weekend.
One of the events that will be held throughout the week, will be the invite to show at Salford’s notorious White Hotel – where they will be able to watch the Silverwingkiller.
The band who are on the bill for the show, are performing on February 13 – with guests being able to distract themselves with their brutalist doom metal and electric live music.
The Silverwingkiller are creating experimental ‘international industrial city punk’. With a lineup this loud, it would be impossible to not be distracted from romantic affairs – and tickets are available here.
Guests will also be able to entertain themselves at the Lowry theatre this week and avoid the typical Valentines traditions.
This week at the Lowry, residents will be able to visit the Lowry to watch the showing of ‘The girl on the train’.
The adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ novel, the show follows a young woman who attributes much of her happiness and hope to the seemingly perfect couple she watches through her train window everyday.
The young woman suddenly disappears, she finds herself a witness and also a suspect in the case. This bleak and chilling portrayal of a perfect relationship turned dark is, inherently, anti- valentines.
Guests will be able to watch the Anti-Valentines type performance this week, and explore the show at the Lowry – with more information being found here.
Single residents across Salford who will also be looking to get away from the traditional values of Valentines, can also experience the gothic post punk band at the White Hotel.
The Heartworms, fronted by North London’s Jojo Orme, will be performing at the white hotel on Valentines day.
Guests around Salford will be able to explore the band and be entertained for £16 a ticket.
The show is the perfect opportunity to stay solemn and wear all black on a day defined by pink and florals, or reject forced positivity with the comfort of the gothic genre.
This list of events should be able to offer the least romantic of people some bliss and escape from the bombardment of hand holding and screenings of the new Bridget Jones film.
And this Friday, singletons and cynicals alike can remain anti-Valentines day.
The countdown is on. 7 days till the album. 12 days till tour.
Manchester sold out. Brussels venue upgrade. Southampton and Leeds low tickets.
