The Salford Red Devils newly appointed CEO has shared the clubs new vision and plans for an ‘exciting future’.
Following last week’s takeover, which saw a consortium led by businessman Dario Berta, CEO of Matanel, an investment bank that specialises in real estate investment, have completed a full 100% purchase of the club which has been approved by the CBS.
The new financial takeover, has seen all current club debt cleared, as the new owners plan and prepare for future growth of the club.
The takeover has seen the appointment of Chris Irwin as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer, formerly holding the role of the Chief Commercial Officer at the Salford Red Devils.
Being re-introduced into the club, he said: “Fantastic. Absolutely buzzing with the news and happy to be coming back to the club.”
The takeover has taken away all of the clubs financial worries, and has allowed them to play with their full squad ahead of the season, with selection restrictions being lifted for the first game of the Super League season.
“It’s been a huge relief. There’s been a cloud over the club for a number of months now and to see this deal get over the line, and to see the exciting future the club has is incredibly exciting for everybody involved.”
And as a former Rugby League player, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Red Devils, spending four years with the Wigan Warriors, before playing for Leigh, Oldham, Rochdale and Swinton.
Upon his appointment as CEO, Irwin met with head coach Paul Rowley, assistant coach Kurt Haggerty, and the first team squad to outline his vision for the clubs future.
This vision includes squad reinforcement, stadium development and enhancements to the clubs infrastructure.
The new Salford Red Devils CEO said: “I’ve watched this club throughout my life, I’m passionate about the city of Salford and I’m incredibly proud to take on the position as chief executive.
“I’m very honored and I know all my family and all my friends are delighted for me.”

The club confirmed on Friday 7 February that Dario Berta, CEO of Matanel, an investment bank that specialises in real estate investment, completed a 100% purchase of the club.
David Berta said: “This is the start of a very bright and successful future for the Salford Red Devils.
“I’m very proud to be involved, and with Chris at the helm, I feel like we have the perfect opportunity to build something special”.
In a message to fans, Irwin said: “Our fans have been loyal to the bone and they’ve been through turmoil for as long as I can remember.
“It goes without saying that they’re always going to be there, so we want to represent the fans in the best possible light and take them on a journey on us which shows the growth of our club.”
This new chapter in the club history will be a memorable, and has already seem them win against Midlands Hurricanes.
But the Red Devils will be put to the test in their first Super League fixture under new ownership against St. Helens.
