A “really positive” new Salford fund is being offered to independent creatives to access further professional development.

Salford City Council and Salford CVS are offering £250-£500 to creatives who wish to evolve their career professionally.

Applicants must be from a Salford postcode and be a freelance or sole trader creative, artist, musician, and performers.

The Salford fund will cover costs such as materials, equipment, training course fees, travel costs, child/dependent care costs and professional fees that are associated with extended creative development.

Councillor Hannah Robinson-Smith, the Lead Member for Culture, Heritage, Equalities, Sports and Leisure, said: “At our Citywide Creative Mixers, lots of artists and creatives were saying funding their own professional development was something they really struggled with.”

The response to the fund had been “really positive” and had received a “good number of applications.”

Coun Robinson-Smith also said the service being expanded was “absolutely a consideration”.

“As it stand[s], this is a pilot project and a one-off, but we would certainly consider doing more of the same.”

The scheme encourages all independent creatives to sign up to the Salford Culture and Place Partnership newsletter to get the most up to date information on opportunities, events and jobs.

To apply and find out more about the Salford fund before the deadline of February 14, visit the Salford CVS website.
