A body has been found on railway tracks close to Eccles station.
Police were called around 4.15pm on Sunday afternoon (February 9) following reports of a casualty on the track.
Multiple emergency service vehicles and paramedics attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Eccles Railway Station at about 4.15pm yesterday (9 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Following the incident transport was halted, with Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services being impacted.

During the incident, a spokesperson from Northern Railway shared: “Emergency services dealing with an incident between Manchester Piccadilly and Newton-Le-Willows – some lines are blocked.”
However, they shared at 8.37pm: “Services are no longer affected by this problem.”
British Transport Police said: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
