Salford residents have been warned to expect travel disruptions for the rest of the day after a serious road collision.
Following the incident that occurred at around 2am this morning, (Friday 7 February 2025) involving one car landing on its roof on the railway tracks beneath the Regent Road roundabout, in Salford.
Emergency services arrived at the scene of the serious road collision with one man in his 30s being taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
A spokesperson from the GMP said: “There is still a police scene in place on Regents Road and we continue to work with British Transport Police and Network Rail to conduct initial enquiries.
“We apologise for any disruption and we thank the public for their patience as we work in the area.”
Through further updates, no other vehicles were involved in the incident following the serious road collision which happened on Regent Road Roundabout.
Rail services operated by Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales are affected, and train information website National Rail Enquiries warned that disruption is expected to continue until the end of Friday.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “In the early hours of this morning, a car crashed on to the railway near Regents Road Roundabout in Salford causing significant damage to the railway and overhead electric cables that provide power to trains.
“As a result of this incident, no trains are able to run on the Chat Moss line impacting services from Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.
“Transport for Wales, TransPennine Express and Northern services are affected. Services via Warrington Central between Liverpool and Manchester are operating as normal.
“There has been significant damage to the overhead lines which will take at least eight hours to repair once the site has been cleared.
“We anticipate the earliest possible time the lines can reopen is 10pm on Friday.
“We would ask passengers travellling to the Manchester United game tonight to check before they travel.”
