Bee Network cheaper tram and bus annual tickets Image from Transport for Greater Manchester

Salford residents will be able to travel on buses and trams for cheaper prices from this March with a newly launched annual ticket.

The new multi-modal annual ticket launched by the Bee Network will allow unlimited travel on any bus or tram for an average cost of between £2.75 and £4.10 per day.

Passengers travelling around Salford will be able to save 15 per cent on the new ticket when compared to buying the 13, 28-day tickets.

The new tickets will be available from 23 March 2025, the same day as the launch of the new London-style touch-in, touch-out payment system.

Ahead of the new changes Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham said: “We’re making huge strides towards making public transport cheaper, simpler to understand and more convenient than ever before.

“The annual bus and tram ticket will be perfect for frequent travellers who regularly board the Bee Network – cutting the cost by 15 per cent.

“People will be able to either pay up front or spread the payments through Greater Manchester Credit Unions,” he continued.

The £11 precept increase for Band D properties will fund the delivery of the bus reform programme and support ongoing improvements to the Bee Network.

The new annual tickets have been announced alongside proposals including funding for new digital real-time information displays at bus stops, as well as acquisition of 3,500 bus shelters in Greater Manchester to modernise shelters.

Transport Commissioner for Greater Manchester, Vernon Everitt said: “All fare revenue is retained within the publicly owned transport system and used to deliver services and fund further improvements.

“The more passengers we can attract, the more we can keep the cost of travel down.

“These new fares product and simple ‘tap and go’ payment with daily and weekly fare caps are making public transport more convenient and affordable and are core to our aim of encouraging more people to use our services,” he continued.

The annual multi-modal bus and tram tickets will be available to purchase from any Transport for Greater Manchester ticket office, or on the Bee Network app.
