A unique fundraiser that will invite residents to walk across either a path of lego or fiery hot coals is set to take place in Worsley.
The event will take place at the Boothstown Village Hall with the aim of raising as much money in the battle against cancer.
The fundraiser will take place on Saturday 1 March 5pm to 7pm, and will aim to raise money for North West Cancer Research and Kidscan.
Ahead of the event Rachel Brocklebank, fundraiser for North West Cancer Research, said: “Fundraising events like this allow us to continue funding critical research to better understand and tackle cancer”.
She continued to explain why events such as these are so vital: “In the Northwest, we are 25% more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than anywhere else in the UK.
“When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it affects so many people. It’s crucial to have solid support systems in place, and events like this help strengthen those networks.
“In all our lives, we have things that are hard to show up for and continue with, we want people to take the lessons from this event into their daily lives.”
Participating families are encouraged to complete the challenge together; with a registration fee of £10 each.
Up to two children under 10 years old can be added for £5 each, however the fire walk is only available to those over 10 years old.
Those who are participating in the event in Worsley will have to raise a minimum of £100, being split equally between both charities who are dedicated to researching and educating everyone about cancer.
And the raised funds will be vital for the future research and developments, especially children’s cancer research.
As according to the children’s charity Kidscan, only 3.5% of UK cancer research funding goes to children’s cancer, resulting in just four new treatments in 20 years, versus 140 for adults.
Kidscan stated: “Every step you take will fund life-saving cancer research projects”, “Let’s come together for a great cause, your efforts could help change lives.”
