Salford manager Karl Robinson shared he was ‘proud’ in his sides performance after losing 8-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup.

The Ammies faced a devastating defeat to the Pep Guardiola’s side, conceding five goals in the second half at the Etihad Stadium.

However, despite the hammering Salford City took Karl Robinson was humble in defeat, as he said: “I said in the build up to the game that Manchester City and Pep never disrespect anybody.

“Tonight they showed why they are and what they are, and why he is.”

The Ammies were able to show their strength in the first half, creating multiple chances that threatened the Manchester City net – with the 3-0 half-time scoreline not being reflective of their efforts.

And despite losing by eight goals the Salford City head coach said: “There were moments in the game for me, we had a chance at 2-0.

“We had one or two opportunities. But some of our defending and our disconnection was one of the worst I’ve seen it.”

He continued: “But you’re going to expect that against the quality of the opposition.”

The heavy defeat can also be looked on as a ‘free hit’ with Robinson sharing his ambitions for the rest of the season, he continued: “We have only had one goal and that was to get out of the league that we are in.

The Salford City Head Coach came into the fixture with his side only conceding one goal in seven, and jokingly admitted he would rather his side concede 8 across those games.

However, he was quick to praise his players so far this campaign, the head coach added: “We’ve come on so much in 12 months, and to be where we are in the league and the type of football club that we are, this is just a glimmer of what we want to be.”

And was happy to look ahead to the fixture against Fleetwood Town on Saturday, as he added: “Collectively we’ll just dust ourselves off and go again.

“We will learn from today, and we will look forward to next week.”

However, he continued to share his praise: “From my point of view I am incredibly proud of them, I really am. They never let me down.”

The Ammies will now be able to move their focus onto the league now, with the ambition of promotion still firmly set currently sat third in the table.

The lessons from the recent fixture will be taken into the next game against Fleetwood Town, as Salford City will look to bounce back at the Peninsula Stadium.
