Age UK Salford have urged people to stay warm and reach out to older people as temperatures continue to drop. 

The Salford charity are offering advice to people on how to stay warm as yellow weather warnings are set to bring minus temperatures.

The yellow weather warning from the Met Office has advised residents to be cautious as snow and ice is expected.

And with temperatures estimated to go as low as -8 degrees, Age UK Salford are encouraging residents to prepare for the cold spell.

A spokesperson from the charity said: “Age UK Salford is urging people to do everything they can to stay warm and well during this spell of cold weather.

“We would also urge everyone to reach out to the older people in their lives to check they have what they need during the bad weather.”

The Salford charity have also offered advice on how to prepare,  encouraging residents to heat their home to a steady temperature throughout the day and night

Age UK Salford have also urged residents to “check you’ve got enough medication and food in case it’s harder to leave the house.” 

The Met Office have shared that weather is expected to be as high as 3 degrees, with temperatures dropping into the negative figures and are expected to persist until Friday 9 January 9am.

Ahead of the cold weather, the charity have also urged residents to keep a friendly eye on older relatives, friends and neighbours. 

And elderly residents are urged to avoid slippery and icy floor – with Age Uk encouraging the community to grit paths and driveways for those less able.

Walking residents have also been urged to where gripped shoes to avoid icy flooring, and any potential falls.

For residents who are unable to heat their homes – they should take caution on the roads but find open warm spaces in the community which can be found here.
