Salford City boss Karl Robinson has insisted he will not change his style of play ahead of their third-round FA Cup match against Man City.
After success against MK Dons, Salford City are now six games unbeaten and up to second in League Two.
Maintaining that winning run will prove challenging, as the Ammies’ next game is a short trip to Manchester City in the FA Cup.
The confidence amongst the squad is high following the festive period, and that has been reflected by head coach Robinson, who has ruled that his side will not change the style of play for the Premier League Champions.
Speaking after Salford’s 1-0 triumph in Milton Keynes, Karl Robinson was adamant that his Salford City side would not change principles against Pep Guardiola’s Man City.
“We’ll play the same way,” the Ammies head coach insisted.
“My team has an identity that I’ve always had over 15 years doing this now. I’ve always been quite true to who we are, regardless of the opposition.
Every time we’ve done it we’ve been true to who we are. We’ll do Salford, and that’s who we are. We are true to who we are and our area, and who our owners are and what we want to be.
“We are hardworking, we are industrious, one of the words when I came in was relentless, and also we’ve got quality, mixed with the aggression that we have.
“We are a half-decent team. It will be very hard to keep a clean sheet next week!” Robinson added.
When reflecting on his side’s positive run, Karl Robinson praised his players and their ability to overcome a strong opponent in MK Dons.
“Whenever you win it’s always something you enjoy. We knew out of all the games this was going to be the most difficult of all the games, these [MK Dons] are a good team and everyone knows how many millions they spend.
“Our two transfer windows were completely different,” Robinson said.
“We knew how important this game was but I thought we took tactical information on just unbelievable.
“We found it harder at the beginning of both halves to get to grips with the intensity but I felt the longer the game went on we settled into things. I thought we were a half-decent team.”
“We could have probably scored more today, they could have argued they should have scored one or two, but when we were crying out for quality, it certainly fell in our favour and when we needed an element of luck we had that as well.”
“What we certainly are is a more honest and hardworking for ourselves. On that pitch to win and compete for everything. Today we showed that we can play that way, even on big pitches.”
Robinson reflected on his side’s positive run over the Christmas period: “I just said to the lads in there I don’t think any of us have gone through Christmas, won six games on the spin and not conceded.
“I looked and realised we got Ryan Giggs in the dressing room and thought, oh he might have won four or five over Christmas! I’m really, really proud of them.
“The problem we’ve got is that the longer this situation goes on the more we are going to be challenged.
“We’ve got to make sure we are able to keep our players during this transfer window, we won’t be bringing people in unless other people go, we don’t have that resource unfortunately.”
Sole goalscorer and winner Hakeeb Adelakun celebrated not just his goal but a positive outing in terms of minutes after suffering through injury during earlier stages of the season.
The Ammies head coach insisted that Adelakun will have a bigger impact in the second half of the season.
“He’s getting there, there’s a lot more to come from him,” Robinson commented.
“He’s some player, where everyone’s seen this time last year he was the star of League Two taking Doncaster from fifth or sixth bottom to a playoff campaign, so we know there is a long way to go with him, and we know he can be so much better.”
