During Salford City’s three nil victory last Saturday against Notts County, fans came in their numbers to donate hygiene products in aid of charity The Multibank.
Supporters young and old contributed soaps, toothpaste, and many more essentials for the charity founded by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The nearest centre for Multibank, a charity that looks to fight poverty in the UK, is The Brick in Wigan.
In just two years the group has managed to support more than 120,000 families across the north-west thanks to donations mainly from businesses giving surplus stock to people in need of everyday essentials.
Colin, a volunteer at the match, said: “We deliver to schools, other charities, churches, wherever people need essential household items.
“We all live within the same streets, next to each other. You may not realise it but there’s kids who live around the corner from you that might not have this sort of stuff.”
The charity is partnered with Amazon UK which helps to deliver weekly donations to those in need.
Colin said: “We get Amazon returns that can’t be used anymore and it all gets sorted and household welfare items get distributed, free of charge.”
Players Cole Stockton, Haji Mnong, and others took to the club’s social media to show their support of the cause.
We are supporting @themultibank 2024 Christmas Campaign to help tackle hygiene poverty this weekend 🙌
There will be donation points around The Peninsula Stadium for unopened and unused toiletries including soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shampoo.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder and co-owner of Salford Nicky Butt stated in an article for the club:
“We were very keen to support as a club, and we’re proud to be contributing to such an important initiative.
“We know how supportive our fans are of each other and our community, and we understand that this is a challenge that many people are facing, so it’s even more important that we do what we can to help our community to overcome some of those challenges.”
