During Salford City’s three nil victory last Saturday against Notts County, fans came in their numbers to donate hygiene products in aid of charity The Multibank.
The Multibank is a charity that looks to fight poverty in the UK. Originally founded in Fife by former prime minister Gordan Brown, the organisation has helped thousands since its introduction.
The Brick Multibank is their most local operation located in Wigan. In just two years the group has managed to support over 120,000 families across the north-west thanks to donations mainly from businesses giving surplus stocks for those in need of everyday essentials.
Well before a ball was kicked, volunteers had stations set up on both sides of the ground where supporters of young and old contributed with soaps, toothpaste, and many more essentials.
Colin, a volunteer at the match, explained what Multibank does and the effect it creates for those in need:
“We deliver to schools, other charities, churches, wherever people need essential household items.”
“We all live within the same streets, next to each other. You may not realise it but there’s kids who live around the corner from you that might not have this sort of stuff.”
With the 12:30 kick-off being selected for sky coverage, it allowed Multibank to expand its reach to another club, also working with Wigan Athletic throughout the year.
But it’s not just Sky who helps the multibank. The charity is partnered with Amazon UK which with its “click and collect” scheme can send weekly donations to aid those in need.
“We work with Amazon as well. we get Amazon returns that can’t be used anymore and it all gets sorted and household welfare items get distributed, free of charge”
Cole Stockton, Haji Mnong, and others took to the club’s social media to show their support of the cause.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder and co-owner of Salford Nicky Butt stated in an article by the club:
“When we were first approached by The Multibank to be a club partner for this year’s Christmas Campaign it was something we were very keen to support as a club, and we’re proud to be contributing to such an important initiative.
“We know how supportive our fans are of each other and our community, and we understand that this is a challenge that many people are facing, so it’s even more important that we do what we can to help our community to overcome some of those challenges.”
