Salford's district commander

Salford’s newest district commander Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood has told residents he is prepared to ‘go the extra-mile’ to make the city safe.

The new Ch Supt started his policing career in 2002 in Oldham and worked in a variety of roles including on force wide operations targeting robbery and gang violence.

Blackwood did those roles before joining the Serious and Organised Crime Group to tackle the most serious criminals across Greater Manchester.

Ch Supt Blackwood even worked as a lead for Operation Vulcan, and helping seize almost 1050 tonnes of counterfeit items and 216 shops shut down across Greater Manchester.

Now acting in leadership role in Salford, as district commander, he will aim to continue ensuring that people are prevented from making a profit from criminality.

As well as this, Ch Supt Neil will be continuing to ensure that Salford’s safeguarding of victims, and make sure there are suitable plans in place for the protection of victims, and most notably vulnerable women and girls.

He said: “I am thrilled to be at Salford, it’s like a gift to be serving as its district commander.

“I have done a lot of work all throughout the district, so I know the area quite well and am excited to be able to use my experience and connections to bring a mini-Vulcan to Salford to ensure there is less criminal behaviour on the streets.”

Ch Supt Neil Blackwood added: “Salford is a city that is continually growing and developing, it is vital that we as a police force can develop and adapt alongside.

I am committed to ensuring that we are fit to serve the city appropriately.”

Under the new role, Neil will aim to bring the community together, ensure a positive experience for people living in or visiting Salford.

The method will be taken by the new Chief Superintendent as he encourage the community, police partners, and Salford to come together.

And as Salford develops it will be an exciting time to see how the Salford GMP develop with the growing city of Salford.
