This year Salford’s top boxing stars have been able to light up the ring and make themselves true boxing prospects in the sport. 

Throughout 2024, there have been fighters extend their undefeated record and have been able to perform on the biggest stage and the biggest boxing cards.

Whilst some are awaiting to see there name in the lights for the first time.

This year has been an impressive year for Salford boxers, and it seems that it could be a very exciting 2025.

Alex Murphy

Alex is next lacing up the gloves Friday (6th December) in Liverpool, looking to go to 12 – 0 as a professional boxer.

After a slow year, Alex is looking to make a statement, having only been out once in April, winning on points

Under new management, Murphy is looking to showcase his perfected craft and take home the bonus money, after some time out of the ring.

The lightweight boxer is one of Salford’s biggest names in boxing and is boxing out of Eccles Boxing School.

Currently, he holds an impressive 11-0 pro record since making his debut in 2021 at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre, winning against Ricky Leach on points.

Lewis Wood 

Lewis Wood was the only champion in Salford holding the Central Area Championship, before Lewis relinquished that belt after defending it once to Fraq Ali of Sheffield before taking on Josh Holmes for the English title.

Woods lost out on the English title due to the fight being brought to a halt after the doctor had to intervene due to a cut above Woods’s eye that made it unsafe to continue.

The orthodox boxer has taken to social media to ensure fans he will be back bigger and better next year.

Wood made his pro debut in 2021 against Ricky Leach to win over four rounds on points and now holds an 8-3 record with three title fight bouts next to his name.

Yousif Saeed

The up-and-coming prospect putting Salford on the map Yousif is currently 3-0 after making his debut in June this year, with a win over Jake Smith on points, 40-3

He was then out again in September and won on points again 40-36 against Lee Hallett.

His most recent step into the ring was a promising win to end the year on points.

Scoring 40-36 over Owen Durnan, on the 30th of November at the Toughsheet community stadium on the VIP promotions show.

Welter Weight from Salford orthdox had 12 rounds overall and won all 12 and is one to watch going into 2025.

Roman Fury

The heavyweight with a heavy legacy of the last name Fury, Roman is the son of John Fury and brother to Tyson and Tommy Fury.

Fury, 28, boasts a gleaming record of 4 – 0 with his most recent of the four wins coming by way of knock out against Martin Svarc, who had a similar record of 2-0 in Saudi Arabi, on the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou undercard back in March.

Romans’s debut came in October 2022 when he beat Ryan Hibbert over four rounds in Doncaster to win on points 40-36, but he has never lost a round in the pro ranks.

The public might also recognise Roman after first being introduced to the southpaw boxer when he went with mum Chantal to see brother Tommy Fury in the 2019 series of Love Island.

Alfie Middlemiss

Aflie Middlemiss is a 21-year-old boxer who just turned over in June (2024) under the ex-Salford champion Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis.

The dream duo have huge success when it comes to moulding fighters into future champions with the likes of Jack Catteral, Marc Leach, Aqib Fiaz and Cameron Vuong in the stable.

The young boxer was a stand-out star in Jamie’s amateur boxing club in Walkden, becoming a national champion at Walkden ABC.

Alfie will be making his debut on the Peoples Fighters card over in Liverpool with fellow Salfordian Alex Murphy also on the bill.

The boxer also has a foot in acting with Alfie also being a talented actor following in the footsteps of his dad.

Alfie is the son of famous coronation street actor Philip Middlemiss with the young athlete having already starred in Doctors, Madame Blanc Mysteries and Waterloo Road.
