A local Walkden running group will be hosting a meet-up and fancy dress run this December to celebrate Christmas.
The Walken Jolly Joggers will be using these events to connect people in the community together, whilst inspiring people to join in the running group.
The events will take place over December, and will open to everyone to get involved – with the group meeting every Monday and Thursday at 17:45 to run 5km.
The group meet opposite the Nando’s at Ellesmere shopping centre, and encourage members to see the benefits of mental health and fitness.
The meet up will be held on December 14 at Wetherspoons, and will aim to unite and share the community spirit between the runners.
As lead organiser of the group, Helen Walstow, 44, making sure the upcoming events will be kept “as cheap as it can be” and will tend to promote free events like Park run.
The group was founded by Helen after she moved from Yorkshire and could not find a local and accessible jogging group, so she set her own up.
As Helen revealed what inspired her to create the group, as she said: “it’s a bit of an escape from life and work… it helps you kind of get away from the laptop”
Members of the group have come forward with their positive experiences with Walkden Jolly Joggers saying, “Running with Walkden Jolly Joggers has really helped my mental health and fitness, so much that I became a Run Leader myself. The group is really friendly and supportive and I look forward to run days”.
Another member has said “It gives me something to look forward to on a Monday and Thursday and meeting new people plus I feel great after a good run.”
With a fellow member of the running group said: “The group is so welcoming and supportive, and it’s such a positive experience to be around others also looking to take care of themselves.”
It seems that the club have a positive impact on people in the community – as they look to continue that over the festive period.
