Moonlight paddles

Moonlight paddles along Salford Quays are on offer from Salford Watersports Centre

The invaluable water experience gives paddlers the opportunity to see Salford in a whole new light.

Guests have been enjoying the paddles since early November and can enjoy the brisk winter air of the Quays every Thursday until December 19.

The watersports centre has invited everyone to come down, and wrap up warm to enjoy the illuminated trail on the water.

Guests are encouraged to wear big coats, hats and gloves, topped off with their red life jackets before they are covered with glow sticks to bring life to the water.

Salford Watersports Centre has been operating on The Quays since 2001, offering ‘invaluable’ outdoor education to people and families of all ages.

It is part of Salford Community Leisure, a not-for-profit organisation, that works to benefit the communities in and around Salford through a range of water activities.

The centre promises to provide a “magical” and “unforgettable” night on the waterways, with family and friends having the choice of sharing or using a solo kayak for “a more personal adventure” or a stand-up paddle board to build on previous skills.

As well as their Moonlight Paddle, the centre offers several other activities on the water including cold water swimming and solo kayaking.

Cold water swimming is particularly good for one’s health. Submerging in cold water under supervision in moderation can build both physical and mental resistance and resilience.

Cardiovascular health can be improved, along with immune system and metabolism, but cold water swimming can also serve as an antidepressant, increasing energy levels and stimulating memory and cognition.

Salford Watersports Centre supervises everyone involved in their cold water swims, keeping it safe for those that are brand new or experienced, allowing attendees to safely benefit from this phenomenally cold submersion.

Despite the good that the centre does for the community, it does still suffer vandalism and theft of  professional equipment.

Covid-19 has also had lasting affects on the outdoor industry as a whole, limiting groups like Salford Watersports Centre from educating and benefiting Salfordians through their leisure activities.

Extra fundraising is organised including a Just Giving page here.
