A social club in Irlam will be hosting a pensioner’s party next week that will aim to provide meals to elderly members of the public.
The Higher Irlam Social Club will be inviting pensioners to join in the Christmas festivities this month and join in a fully funded three-course meal.
The club located on Cutnook Lane in Irlam, will host the pensioner’s party this week for a third time after it proved successful for the two years prior.
Original plans saw the party set for Monday, December 2, but the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Following this, the party is set to go ahead on Monday 9 December.
Guests in attendance will have the chance of delving into a full three-course meal, funded by Cadishead charity, Hamilton Davies Trust.
The food will be provided by Sheils Sandwich Bar located in Irlam, with £5 securing a place and a free drink.
Those in attendance can choose their preferred menu so options are available for all.
This year, doors will open at noon and the event will go on until 6 pm with entertainment throughout, such as live musical performances from Cadishead Band and other local artists.
Ahead of the event Assistant Manager Abby Ward said: “It’s important to have events like this for the community as we just help to build morale.
“Some elderly people are from supported living houses and we have them coming out. It gets them out for a bit and gives something back to them, like a warm dinner and entertainment.”
The event is always a success with many people showing up.
“We always get a great turnout out and it’s a very popular night,” added Abby.
“The best thing at the event is seeing the elderly people interacting with each other. It’s nice for them to be outside the same four walls they always see.”
Abby Ward is working alongside stewardess Samantha Ugent and other members of Irlam Higher Society Club to organise the upcoming event.
