A new initiative ‘Present for a Pensioner’ has been launched across Salford with the aim of ensuring that no one feels forgotten.

The charity CareYourWay will be aiming to ensure that people in the area are heard during a period of festivities, warmth, family and giving.

Christmas can be a lonely time for some, and one in ten people over 60 expect to have no one to talk to during the holidays.

This year, CareYourWay’s Salford and Eccles branches aim to bring festive cheer to 51 individuals in the area, partnering with local businesses, healthcare professionals, and community members to make it possible.

The hampers will include a personal touch from children from Nurturing Hands Childcare in Little Hulton and Eccles who have created handmade cards and drawings to include with the gifts.

The charity, which began in rural South Devon, has since grown into a national campaign, spreading joy across the UK.

The initiative delivers luxury hampers filled with thoughtful treats, festive essentials and practical items to elderly people who may otherwise spend the holidays alone.

For those receiving the hampers, it’s more than just a gift, and is a powerful reminder that they are cared for and appreciated by their community.

CareYourWay relies on local healthcare professionals to nominate individuals who might benefit most, such as those living alone or dealing with bereavement this Christmas, and ensures the initiative reaches those most in need of support and companionship, particularly during a difficult time of year.

The programme’s success in Salford reflects the generous spirit of the local community.

Contributions have come from businesses such as Monique Saire Nails, Reedward Plastics (NW) Limited, Titan Interior Solutions, Morgan Sindall Construction, Ameon Limited, and individuals like Michelle Whitehouse.

The children at Nurturing Hands Childcare have also played a crucial role with their wonderful artwork.

CareYourWay continues to welcome donations and support, and if you wish to contribute, you can contact the team on 0161 850 4322.

People can also donate through their GoFundMe page here to ensure that people do not feel alone this year.
