Christmas can be emotionally challenging particularly for those who are grieving so several Salford organisations are gearing up to provide support.
During National Grief Awareness Week, from December 2-9, they will aim to normalise conversations around it.
This year The Good Grief Trust has chosen the theme ‘Shine a Light’.
The trust will aim to highlight the people, places and projects across the UK supporting people who are experiencing a bereavement.
Anyone in need of help, support, advice or a chat can turn to:
Jak’s World
The charity Jak’s World will be hosting Wednesday support sessions, and welcoming anyone experiencing grief to visit.
Jak’s World will be aiming to support those in need, with their website stating: “Grief can be a complex and a life changing experience so it’s good to know there are others, who understand and who we can talk to.”
Salford City Council –
Salford City council will be providing specialist grief support services.
The council shares links to a variety of support groups that will help deal with for example Loss of a Child, bereavement support for children, as well as mobile numbers for support with loss through suicide or illness.
The links to these support lines can be found here.
The Good Grief Trust –
The Good Grief Trust will be providing support in person and online across the Christmas period.
The trust will offer people support through its cafes where people are invited to come together to share their stories of grief and their experiences dealing with the matter.
The trust also offers residents the chance to join virtual cafes in hourly sessions every Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm – with those new to the charity invited to learn more about services and meet volunteers.
The Good Grief Trust is also open on Sunday evenings, with the Moving Forward cafes being open to the public from 6pm to 7pm allowing residents who are less raw with their grief to discuss and share.
For additional information – guests are invited to contact the cafe here.
