Salford man fined £1,000 for littering

Illegal littering has cost a Salford resident more than £1,000.

Tim Badmus was fined £440 for littering, plus £450 in court costs and a £176 victim surcharge for littering in Littleton Road, Langworthy.

Enforcement officers from Salford City Council’s waste and recycling team spotted his pile of illegally dumped household waste when patrolling the area in January.

When challenged Mr Badmus admitted he had deposited the waste between January 25 and January 30, 2024.

A failure to make an initial court date for a fixed penalty notice meant a later court date was put in place which Mr Badmus failed to make, leading to the subsequent fine and costs adding up to more than a thousand pounds.

Councillor Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment and community safety, said: “Although the majority of residents and visitors to Salford are sensible and dispose of their litter and waste correctly, there are still a few individuals whose irresponsible actions are a blight on our communities, and deserve to be reprimanded.

“I hope that the vigilance of our enforcement officers and subsequent prosecutions act as a strong deterrent to anyone who thinks that they can dump waste on our streets and greenspaces, to the detriment of our communities and the environment.”

Salford City Council provides a comprehensive domestic refuse and recycling service for all households within the city and offer residents free, convenient access to facilities for the proper disposal of household waste. Additional information is available here.
